They shot a better-ball 58 against Tano Goya and Rafael Echenique. McDowell and McIlroy combined for 12 birdies. McIlroy scored an eagle on the par-5 15th hole. Goya and Echenique shot 11-under par 61. Japan is a shot behind Argentina and the United States team of Nick Watney is tied for 15th with a score of 67. Watney had four birdies.
